There are those who have the time and the mental focus to go to the gym every day. And then there is the rest of us who, although we might make it to the gym twice or three times a week, we have a work schedule to adhere to and that does not allow us to be there whenever we want to. However, that may not entirely be a bad thing because studies have shown that some exercise in the morning is better than a lot of exercise in the evening. So the logical conclusion is that having a work out method at home is really the best way to get in shape, and what better type of exercise than the pull ups. So we have went out and looked at the best of the best in the market and have come up with the top 10 best pull up bars of . 1. Iron Gym Total Upper Body Workout Bar
If you are not sure that you keep up even with a home workout routine than we would recommend starting with something inexpensive and inconsequential as the Iron Gym Workout Bar. By inconsequential we mean that you can hang it up on top of your door and it uses an ingenious leverage system to get fixed there while you workout. That means you can do several types of pull ups and chin ups and then you can take it down and use it to do pushups and crunches.
2. Sunny Health & Fitness Door Way Chin Up
An even cheaper alternative to the Iron Gym is the Sunny Health and Fitness Chin Up bar. It uses a powerful interior spring and gripping tips to get wedged between the door posts of your room. The obvious advantage is the fact that the force exerted by the bar goes directly into the wall so there is no chance for anything to break. The disadvantage is the fact that, over time, there will be definite marks in the wood of the door frame. And there is also a second disadvantage to consider in that you will only be able to do chin-ups and almost nothing else.
3. Stamina 1690 Power Tower
Once you have graduated from the first two types of pull up bars and are confident that you can make full use of a real machine, then you can buy our favorite, the Stamina 1690 Power Tower. It does take up a little bit of space and it is just that little bit more expensive than the other options we talked about, but it has so much more to offer. You can do anything you want with it from pull ups to push ups to sit-ups and triceps dips. It has no slip caps in several places so it is basically just a matter of imagination because you can work out almost every muscle group with the Power Tower.
4. Iron Gym Total Upper Body Workout Bar – Extreme Edition
Besides the standard Iron Gym workout bar, they have come out with Extreme Edition that really does bring some very nice features to the table. For one it has significantly more places where you can grip the bar from so you can increase the level of your workout as well as the muscle group. The only problem we have with it is that it costs nearly double the price of the simple version and, although there are advantages to using it, they do not warrant the huge price difference.
5. ProSource Heavy-Duty Easy Gym Doorway Chin-Up/Pull-Up Bar
Besides the Iron Gym Extreme Workout Bar there is also a similar version that affords you the same range of motions from ProSource. The only real difference between the two is the fact that the ProSource bar is a lot cheaper, almost at the same price as the non-Extreme version of the Iron Gym. There are those that would agree that the grips on the Iron Gym are of better quality but we have not felt that big of a difference and feel that it would be very easy to change the grips if they broke or you needed more comfortable ones.
6. Ultimate Body Press Wall Mounted Pull Up Bar
If you feel that the smart leverage system of the pull up bars we have talked about so far is interesting, but you are just not sure if it would really be strong enough, than we have to admit that we sympathize. Although we understand the science behind these wall mounted pull up bars, we still feel a lot more comfortable using the wall mounted bar from Body Press. It is a relatively simple and straight forward bar, but you should be able to do just about everything you need to with it.
7. Ultimate Body Press Joist Mounted Pull Up Bar
There is also an alternative to mounting a bar to a wall and that is mounting it to a joist. It works just as well but, if you prefer not to drill holes into your walls, and you have an exposed joist, then you can just use this second Ultimate Body press. We were really impressed with the obvious craftsmanship that went into building these bars and, apparently we are not alone. Both products received a 4.3 star rating on Amazon, which is one of the highest for this type of product.
8. Perfect Multi-Gym
The Perfect Multi-Gym is another door mounted pull up bar, and it comes at a very reasonable price. Despite its 4.1 star rating on Amazon we decided to feature it towards the end of the list simply because it does not look as good as the others. It was obviously designed to stand out from the crowd but we feel that they managed to make it look more like a piece of furniture than a sports equipment with purpose. However, there are definitely going to be people among our readers who are going to like this look and we can guarantee that the quality is as excellent as in all of the other products we have tested and decided to feature here.
9. GoFit Chin-Up Bar
A variation on the simple chin up bar that uses springs to fix itself to the door frame is the GoFit Chin-Up Bar. It uses a couple of wall mounts to really fix the bar in place, and that means it is a much safer tool. The disadvantage in using this type of bar is that you will have to drill several holes in your door frame.
10. Big Mike’s Fitness Deluxe Doorway Pull-Up Bar
Finally, we are going to close with what we think is the fanciest chin-up bar in the entire list, Big Mike’s Fitness Deluxe. They wanted to stand out through their design, and this time they really succeeded because the chrome plating adds a touch of class without intruding on the purpose of the bar. We also love the fact that, although it uses a compressed spring to grip onto the door frame, it also comes with screw in brackets that you can use to make sure that the bar is perfectly secure.
